'Urgent care' for preventing homelessness
Almost everyone agrees that homelessness is an emergency - an urgent crisis for our community. So what if we really invested in treating it like one? Keep Oakland Housed was founded in 2018 with the idea that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and 3.5 years of data show that it is cheaper to prevent homelessness before it starts.
In this episode, Fixing Our City explores the effort being made to find and help people most at risk of losing their homes, and the work that needs to be done to make those programs easy to find and access — so that you’ll know where to go if you’re facing a housing crisis, just like you know where to go if you break your arm.
Fixing Our City is a production of the San Francisco Chronicle.
